Dauphin Island: The Ideal Spot for Snowbird Living

The days seem to grow longer and colder, and people develop a severe case of the winter blues. Well, at least that’s what our guests tell us at Dauphin Island Beach Rentals. Dauphin Island’s Elevated Beach Houses and Vacation Rentals

Dauphin Island is a true barrier island on the Gulf of Mexico; in fact, it is Alabama's only barrier island! The coastal towns of Gulf Shores, Orange Beach and Fort Morgan are on peninsulas, not islands. Like most barrier islands, Dauphin Island has its share of high waters and storm surge during a storm event in the Gulf. As such, our houses along the beach have to be elevated to a minimum of 12 feet above sea level. Most houses are closer to 20 feet elevation along the Gulf beaches. Building, repairing or renovating an elevated beach house has its [...]

Birds Flock to Dauphin Island

It's that time of the year again on Dauphin Island . . . . Dauphin Island is never really crowded, but at this time of the year, the birds seem to outnumber the people on the Island.  Pelicans fly over in groups of a dozen or more, resembling a motorcycle gang of retired birds, riding single-file through the sky. The blackbirds flock and swarm by the thousands. Not to be outdone, the seagulls rally on a sandbar just off of Raphael Semmes. Here is some great video of them taking flight.     Dauphin Island is a bird sanctuary, [...]
